  • Detail detail detail

    Be prepared to reads tons and tons of detail that go off on tangents from the plot. A slow and sometimes arduous read... Interesting enough to keep you curious but frustrating in its pedestrian pace.
  • A book of two halves

    This is my first Stephenson novel and as a whole I enjoyed it. Loved the detail and characterisation of the first part. 5000 years later it's all a little rushed and over with too quickly. Still - a good read.
  • Epic journey

    Seveneves is an epic tale of who and what we are and may become. The story builds detail on detail and you very much get a sense of achievement as the characters fight against gravity and misfortune. This book is not for those of a claustrophobic or agoraphobic tendency. But if the idea of survival excites you then you'll find Seveneves a handy pocket guide.
  • Incredible detail, uneven pace

    Well as in the review title the book is amazingly detailed, the pace. In the early part is very laborious, which you get used to, and then the pace shifts until at part three it's all breakneck speed. The people lack depth somehow, as a kind of reserve of the hard science fiction which is amazing. I'm left feeling as if I'm not sure if I really liked , or really hated it.
  • Flawed but still a must-read

    The first half of the book in the modern era is superb. Refreshing scientific realism is enlivened by well rounded characters. The latter section of the book is a little bit of a let down. A fascinating stage is set but it reads like the back story to a 90s RTS game.
