    Not a bad story but needs more work on the background. This book is set in Perth: I originally assumed this was Perth Australia as it was so unfamiliar then eventually figured out it was meant to be Perth Scotland. As a Scot I have to say it wasn't obvious until Edinburgh was mentioned. It certainly wasn't a Scotland I recognised, and the almost complete lack of dialect (other than the occasional "Aye") didn't help. No real sense of place.

    It took me a few pages to get sucked in, but the author does a brilliant job of making one wonder what will happen next… This is the tale of a fairy, outcast because of her inate magic from the world of fairies and all that goes with it…and then she meets Munro, a Scottish detective with an ability to feel when something terrible has happened. One night he’s pulled toward a murder scene which happens on the fairy’s doorstep…and there’s nothing mundane out the body missing a heart. I enjoyed the story. It’s set up like a detective novel, but it’s not really a mystery…there’s romance, but it’s not a romance…the plot is about magically handicapped people attempting to stop a crazy evil fairy (whose talen is blood magic)…from aquiring more power. The ending was not what I expected…which for me has both postive and negative aspects. It’s strange. The ending felt both strong and weak. It’s well written. I love the llittle details of the author's fairy culture that we’re allowed to see. I’m looking forward to reading more by the author.

    Almost didn't download this because of the rather lame title and cover (I know, one shouldn't judge a book by its cover), but really glad I did as it's a jolly good read. Good writing (unlike lots of other free books) with a very interesting plot that keeps you reading. Will gladly pay for Book 2. Highly recommended!
