After fifty years of marriage, Elsie slowly succumbed to Alzheimer's, and Wes -- a newspaperman -- wrote journals to help himself deal with the growing pressures of her condition.     This is a deeply moving and powerful book. Every conceivable emotion comes through. I was hooked from the beginning right through. Yo the end. It was like entering right inside the deepest personal experience of another. I'm sure the author and his amazing wife are back together.

    Once started I could not put this book down. Wes has written such a moving and honest account of the time that he spent with his soulmate coming to terms with Alzheimers. Leaving nothing out and expressing his feelings as he lived through the awful process of losing his beloved Elsie. This book goes a very long way in helping us to understand how Alzheimers progresses and how it can be dealt with in a loving and compassionate way

    This book is a book for sharing with those who are traveling the same journey, and also for those who work with those who are traveling this path. It is heartfelt, you see the hopes and dreams that Wes and Elsie had. You share the joy, disappointments and the grief of losing those we love. It touched me in ways I hadn't realised, it made me discuss this subject of dementia with my husband. I shall also share this book with family, friends and colleagues who work daily with those inflicted with this disease. In the past in my capacity of working with the elderly I have had to assist with providing care for those with this disease and support those who care for them. If I had seen and read this book I'm sure it would have aided my understanding those needing support. But I hope that those I have worked with felt that I had left them with positive thoughts and feelings.

    I run a club for people with demensia and their carers.In my experience,in England there would be a very small percentage of people that coul afford to buy a second apartment and have 24hr care for their partner.It is a heartbreaking illness for the person with memory problems,their carer and the families.Of all the people in my club i dont know of anyone that owns a second home that they can escape to.So in actual fact its a touching if slighy unrealistic account of a couple living with dementia.

    This book has helped me so much. My husband is in the final stages of Alzheimer's and I have been worried about the fact that I'm struggling to do every day tasks. I am only 60 and was feeling my life had ended too but now I realise if things are planned properly and with the correct help my husband can still have a dignified ending and I can still have a life, which is what he would want.
